South Com Turret
Alright shooters as promised ive been working on the new turret design and with the help of "Orange Fury" AKA Shawn we got one turret built today. It took quite a bit of of work and about a half a day to complete but it is all worth it seeing it in action heres a few pictures and a brief description.
I gathered up some parts from the shop i work at after figuring out a parts list from the basic design in my head. I used 14 feet of 2 1/4 in aluminized mild steel piping aka exhaust piping. I figured it would resist rusting pretty well. We used 3 cans of paint, camo of course. 2 feet of 2 1/2 in pipe, one big bolt and 4 small bolts with washers and nuts. One pre cut sheet of tin from home depot and one 4 foot piece of angle iron also from the Depot. 3 old worn out rotors from a car for the feet. And to make the turret swivel nicely I snagged an old worn out rear axle from the shop that was in the trash pile that still had a bearing on it.
Luckily I have a Mig welder and since Shawn has been learning to weld he wanted to lay down all the welds so I was much obliged to let him since I get enough welding and such at work all week long. We also used my side cutter, drills, grinder and wire wheel, and my compound miter saw. Shawn was having a blast!!!
Heres some pics and vids
Me doin some cutting on the miter saw.
Shawn welding
Shawn showing how easily it rotates.
The finished product with one adjustable leg for hill top use.
Shawn testing the final project out.
